Listening and Talking to Jesus

Many Christians today believe that artists who choose to acknowledge Jesus in some way, shape or form in their work acknowledge the fact that He has something to say, and uses them to get His messages across. In fact many people today put songs that mention Jesus on par with listening to Him directly and that this is one of the most prominent ways that he engages in the mainstream. However, others argue that the messages of Jesus can be heard anywhere for those who are willing and wanting to listen (Gilmour, 254). However, it is not just the public that feels this way, as several artists share the belief that it is important to listen to religion in music. Elvis was one of those people. Many of his albums had Christian things and many people credit Elvis with bringing them back to the church. "Elvis knew the song profoundly, singing a lively version and then slowing down the pace to fit the mood of the lyrics. The song's narrator tells the essential evangelical story of one "lost in sin" but not without hope because "Jesus took me in"" (Wilson, 74). In fact, Elvis actually dedicated most of his career to religious music and like him they use themselves as a vehicle for Jesus to communicate with the masses.

(Wilson, 760).
